It has been already said that we live in Taiwan. Just in case you don't know, Taiwan (also known as the Republic of China) is an island in Southeast Asia. Politically speaking Taiwan is a territory of China but China has no control here. It's all complicated, anyway Taiwan has its own president and China's hands are too short to reach the island.
So please, if you didn't know until now, Taiwan is NOT China and Taiwan is NOT Thailand either. :))
We live in a small city called Hualien on the east coast of the island, the least populated part of Taiwan. Most of the population lives in Taipei, the capital or in other big cities as Taichung, Tainan or Kaohsiung, located on the west coast of the island. Taiwan is small with many people and the middle of the island is filled with high mountains, so it’s not possible to live there.
Hualien is, for us, the best place in Taiwan. We don't like big city-rush, we like nature and fresh air which we have here. During summer, we can enjoy the Pacific Ocean on the beach less than 30 mins drive from our home, and we have mountains literally next to our house, so an amazing view is a guarantee every day! Dreamy place, what else to say.
Finally, who are we then? Ok, so you know me, the mama of the pack Adela. My husband's name is Fredy, he's a rapper (you can check his music on www.yougueywhite.com) and he's also a Finance student. He's unbelievably hard-working and smart. Currently, he's making his own home studio and I'm supporting him with all my heart. He's also committed, loving and generous, and I know he's going to be a great father to our children. He's from Ivory Coast in West Africa and his life stories could make a great book. Even after almost 4 years, he can still surprise me with one of those stories.
Same as for many ex-pats living in Taiwan, teaching English is our part-time job. My husband also teaches French since he's a native speaker.
We met in 2016 here in Hualien, I was an exchange student and he just started studying at the same school. We had one class together, he was so handsome and I was avoiding him as much as I could... My English was so bad and he seemed like an egoistic guy who's just breaking girl's hearts. Haha!
Later we went for a date and we fell for each other soon after. Since then, we have experienced long-distance relationship, financial problems, sicknesses, earthquakes, etc. All those downs were luckily followed by many ups and most importantly, they made our relationship even stronger.
In December 2018 we unexpectedly became family of three. We got a dog! :))
There are thousands and thousands of stray dogs everywhere in Taiwan, which was breaking my heart since the moment I arrived. One Friday afternoon, I got a call from my friend, she was freaking out. Her boyfriend found a pup litter with a dead female dog nearby. :(( Sadly he couldn't take care of them, because he was about to travel. I acted impulsively, that is very me hah, and told my husband that we have to go to pick those poor puppies. And that's how we got BB (her actual name is Beyonce but we never call her that).
She and her siblings lived with us for two months, we took care of them and later found homes for the five of them. BB found her home at Christmas when my lovely husband agreed that we can keep her. :)
She's crazy protective of her family, but also loving and if she knows you, she will let you cuddle her. She's a typical Formosan Dog and I can't wait to see her next to the baby as a protector and partner in crime. <3
So, that's us and we can't wait to welcome the fourth member of our family in July this year! <3
